The Story Behind the Print
This 1881 botanical plate depicts Bryopsis plumosa in the fine branching or frond detail of nineteenth-century marine illustration. The original printed species caption and plate number remain part of the composition.
The seaweed is centered on a softly brightened, warm paper ground. Its species is associated with the New England coast. Pair it with other plates in the series for a coordinated arrangement.

About the Frame
