The Story Behind the Print

This 1963 nautical chart of Casco Bay, Maine, is U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey chart 315, drawn on a Mercator projection at 1:40,000 with soundings in feet at mean low water. Khaki-taupe islands and long fingers of land stream southwest across pale blue shallows, with fine blue depth contours drifting over the white open bay.

Lettered on the sheet are Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Yarmouth, Freeport, South Freeport and Brunswick, with Harpswell Center, South Harpswell, West Harpswell, Orrs Island and Bailey Island. Peaks I., Cushing I., Long Island, Great Diamond I. and Sebascodegan I. crowd Casco Bay, cut by Hussey Sound, Luckse Sound, Merriconeag Sound, Broad Sound and the Royal, Harraseeket and Androscoggin Rivers. A tidal table covers Small Pt. Harbor, Cundy Harbor, Harpswell Harbor, South Freeport and Portland, and green notes mark wire dragged areas.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, ensuring your vintage nautical chart will maintain its maritime heritage for generations.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
