The Story Behind the Print
Charles P. Strite's U.S. Patent 1,394,450, granted October 18, 1921, describes an automatic bread toaster with a timed release mechanism. The invention addressed burned toast by combining electric heating elements with a controlled pop-up action.
The sheet is headed C. P. Strite, Bread Toaster, is marked sheet 1 of 5, and records an application filed June 22, 1920. Fig. 1 is a front view with the casing opened to show two heating chambers with vertical elements, a rack and a toothed arm above a base on small feet. Fig. 2 is a side view and Fig. 3 a small spring detail. Numerals run up to 166.

About the Frame
