The Story Behind the Print

This 1968 nautical chart of Choctawhatchee Bay was issued by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey for the bay and the Gulf shore of northwest Florida. Warm land tones and pale water give the sheet the calm, practical look of a working mariner's chart.

Choctawhatchee Bay runs along the top of this sheet from Fort Walton Beach at its western end past Destin and the Choctawhatchee Bay Entrance, along the north shore at Valparaiso and Niceville, to Freeport, La Grange Bayou and the mouth of the Choctawhatchee River in the east. The long barrier strand of Santa Rosa Beach and Moreno Point closes the bay from the Gulf of Mexico, which fills the lower two thirds of the chart with soundings, the missile test and restricted areas, and two compass roses.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, ensuring your vintage nautical chart will maintain its maritime heritage for generations.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.

About the Frame

Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.

The selected size refers to the artwork itself. Framed orders are custom made and ship within 7 to 10 business days, free in the U.S. See our shipping and return policies for framed piece details.
