The Story Behind the Print

Étienne Léopold Trouvelot Star Cluster in Hercules 1877

This archival astronomy print reproduces Étienne Léopold Trouvelot's celebrated chromolithograph of the globular star cluster in Hercules from a June 1877 study. First published in 1882 as part of The Trouvelot Astronomical Drawings, the plate pairs careful observation with unusually atmospheric color and detail.

The landscape composition brings a vivid scientific subject to a study, library, bedroom or collected gallery wall. Its warm ivory ground, artwork scale and balanced borders are coordinated across the Trouvelot series so multiple plates hang together seamlessly.

Premium Archival Quality

Printed to order with archival inks on heavyweight 325gsm museum-grade matte paper. The complete plate, including its historic title and signature details, is centered on a continuous warm ivory background.

Available Presentations

Choose Print Only or a professionally framed version in Satin Black, Slimwood Silver or Slimwood Gold. Available artwork sizes are 16 x 12, 24 x 18, 32 x 24 inches. Framed options have no mat and arrive ready to hang. Sizes refer to the paper artwork; the frame adds to the outside dimensions. Display props are not included.

A Thoughtful Gift

A distinctive gift for astronomers, stargazers, science-history readers and admirers of nineteenth-century celestial art.

Color and Detail Note

Screen settings can affect the appearance of printed colors. Fine historic lettering is best appreciated close up. This is a reproduction print, not an original.
