The Story Behind the Print

This 19th-century map of New York City captures Manhattan at a pivotal moment in American urban history. Created during the era of rapid expansion following the 1811 Commissioner's Plan, this cartographic gem shows the city's distinctive grid system transforming scattered colonial settlements into what would become America's greatest metropolis. You can trace the methodical march of numbered streets and avenues as they imposed order on the island's natural topography.

The map reflects the ambitious vision of a growing nation—when Manhattan was still dotted with farms above 14th Street, yet planners were already dreaming of a city that would stretch to the island's northern tip. This piece of historical cartography captures New York in its adolescence, balanced between its Dutch colonial origins and its destiny as a global commercial powerhouse.

Reproduced on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using museum-quality giclée printing and archival inks that resist fading for generations. Our vintage map prints preserve every delicate line and geographic detail of these vintage map reproductions.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.

About the Frame

Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with a 1.125 inch face, glazed in crystal-clear acrylic, and finished with a kraft paper dust cover and hanging wire. Your print is dry mounted so it stays perfectly flat for decades. Each framed piece arrives ready to hang.

The frame adds roughly 1.75 inches to each side of the print size you select. Framed orders are custom made and ship within 7 to 10 business days, free in the U.S. See our shipping and return policies for framed piece details.

Initially, I wasn't sure what size I needed. The seller was extremely helpful and offered to send mock-up images of the image in the frame so I could physically visualize the piece! Overall, it is a beautiful accent piece for our entryway table! Frame/image came packed well with not a scratch on it! Would recommend this seller 100%.
My daughter loves the map in her room. She looks at is a lot . She points to all the places she wants to travel to. The packaging was great. It was very safe with all the bubble wrap! The frame was what I picked out. It arrived when it was suppose to. Thank you Liz
Love my hometown Santa Monica map and I can’t wait to get it framed! Would have done it through Justin but due to Covid-19 he didn’t know when that would be. So I’ll just get it done myself. Can’t wait to hang it-know exactly where it will go! Justin was kind and answered my questions in a very timely manner. Thank you again!
