The Story Behind the Print
The front page of the first issue of the New York Times, Thursday, September 18, 1851, in black type on grey paper. The masthead reads "New-York Daily Times", with narrow columns of small type running down the sheet.
Below the masthead, "VOL. I.... NO. 1." stands at the left of the date line and "PRICE ONE CENT." at the right. A small boxed notice headed "New-York Daily Times" sits in the upper left column, followed by headlines in capitals. Columns of news and advertisements run to the foot of the page.
Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.
