The Story Behind the Print
This vintage Pileated Woodpecker print reproduces plate 111 from John James Audubon's nineteenth-century Birds of America, restored as historical wall art for studies, libraries and natural-history gallery walls.
Four woodpeckers gather along a rough tree trunk and crossing branch, surrounded by grape leaves and dark fruit clusters. Their red crests and black-and-white plumage stand out against the finely drawn bark and pale paper; the upper bird holds a pale grub in its bill. The original engraved caption identifies an adult male, an adult female and two young males, and names the accompanying Racoon Grape, Vitis aestivalis.

Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
