The Story Behind the Print
This vintage Ruby crowned Wren print reproduces plate 195 from John James Audubon's nineteenth-century Birds of America. Two small birds with vivid red crowns occupy a branching spray of leaves and pink blossoms.
The upper bird angles toward a leafy stem, while the lower one faces left with its beak open. The flowering mountain laurel and spare branches give the pair room to stand out. Original No 39, PLATE CXCV, Ruby crowned Wren and REGULUS CALENDULA lettering, figure labels, botanical name, and engraving credits remain visible on the warm historic paper.
