The Story Behind the Print
This vintage Tufted Auk print reproduces plate 249 from John James Audubon's nineteenth-century Birds of America, prepared as historical wall art for a study, library or natural-history gallery wall.
Two tufted seabirds stand among coastal rocks and sparse grasses. The larger bird shows layered dark wings, pink feet, a colorful bill and long pale head plumes; its companion faces forward behind the rocks. The original pale-blue sky wash, No. 50, Plate CCXLIX, Tufted Auk caption, Latin name and engraved credits remain visible.
Archive Print Co. restores each illustration for clarity while preserving the character of the original. Each reproduction is printed as a giclée art print on heavyweight 325gsm archival matte paper with archival inks.

About the Frame
Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
