The Story Behind the Print
This vintage Red-breasted Sandpiper print reproduces plate 315 from John James Audubon's nineteenth-century Birds of America, prepared as historical wall art for a study, library or natural-history gallery wall.
Two shorebirds occupy a rocky coast beside patterned water. The upper bird stands on one dark leg, showing a vivid rust-red breast and a finely mottled back; the lower bird reaches its dark bill forward above the rocks, with pale underparts and green legs. Distant mountains and a softly painted sky remain behind them. The original No. 63, Plate CCCXV, Red-breasted Sandpiper caption, Latin name, plumage labels and engraving credits remain on the sheet.

About the Frame

Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
