The Story Behind the Print
This Black-bellied Plover bird print reproduces plate 334 from John James Audubon's nineteenth-century Birds of America. Three shorebirds gather on a low, rocky stretch of ground.
A black-bellied adult spreads its patterned wings in the foreground, while one bird stands behind it and a smaller bird watches at the right. Their finely marked plumage is set against Audubon's softly painted blue sky. The original No. 67, Plate CCCXXXIV, Black-bellied Plover title, historical Latin name and engraved credits remain visible.

About the Frame
