The Story Behind the Print
This Little Auk bird print reproduces plate 339 from John James Audubon's nineteenth-century Birds of America. Two seabirds meet at a rocky shoreline, one swimming in the foreground and the other standing above the water.
The swimming bird holds a small crustacean in its bill beneath softly painted coastal heights. Deep blue-black plumage, pale breasts, layered green water and the rock's fine shading give the scene its quiet contrast. The original No. 68, Plate CCCXXXIX, Little Auk title, historical Latin name, male and female labels and engraved credits remain visible.
Archive Print Co. restores each illustration for clarity while preserving the character of the original. Each reproduction is printed as a giclée art print on heavyweight 325gsm archival matte paper with archival inks.

About the Frame
Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
