The Story Behind the Print
This archival print reproduces an 1878 plate of whaling hooks and chains from Alexander Starbuck's History of the American Whale Fishery. It retains the complete historical illustration and its original printed frame.
The engraving shows hooks, chains and long-handled implements with their original printed labels. The black line work and original plate number give this piece the character of a nineteenth-century maritime illustration.
Printed to order with archival inks on heavyweight 325gsm museum-grade matte paper. Choose an unframed print or a ready-to-hang finish in Slimwood Silver, Slimwood Gold or Satin Black.
Screen settings can affect printed colors. Fine historic lettering is best appreciated close up.
About the Frame
Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
