The Story Behind the Print

Tafel 76 from Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904), titled Thoracostraca, Panzerkrebse (armored crustaceans).. The plate is printed in white line on a black panel, with Haeckel's heading and the plate number above and the title below.

A tall central crustacean with long folded claws and a banded tail rises through the middle of the panel, with a circular section at the top. Spiny, many-legged larval forms sit at the upper left and upper right, and small shield-backed larvae flank the center. A lobster-like crustacean lies at the lower left and a prawn with a long beak at the lower right.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.

About the Frame

Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
