The Story Behind the Print
A digitally colored interpretation of The Basking Shark or Bone Shark; The Mackerel Shark, Plate 249, from the U.S. Fish Commission's 1884 fisheries plate volume. The color is a modern treatment of the historical drawing, with the original linework, caption, and plate number retained.
Two sharks now read horizontally in the original plate's natural reading direction, with both captions upright. The complete composition is presented on a balanced landscape sheet.
Offered in 8 × 6, 12 × 9, and 16 × 12 inch paper sizes. Choose Print Only or a ready-to-hang Satin Black, Slimwood Silver, or Slimwood Gold frame, without a mat. Sizes refer to the paper; the frame adds to the overall dimensions.
Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished print.
About the Frame
Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
