Manilla and the Nishnabotny River

Manilla Iowa 1908 Map Print

Manilla Iowa 1908 Map Print -- Slimwood Silver, 20 x 24 inches framed, wall view

The title reads MANILLA, with NISHNABOTNY TWP. lettered beneath it and a scale line below that reading 400 ft. = 1 inch.

The town plan fills the right and lower part of the sheet in numbered blocks cut into lots, between lettered streets. MAIN is lettered as a street in the upper part of the plan, near its west side, and numbered streets are lettered among the blocks, including 1ST at the top of the plan and 11TH near its south end. ORIGINAL TOWN is spelled out in large letters in a long diagonal across the blocks, and MILWAUKEE LAND CO'S additions are lettered in several places across the middle and east of the plan. NORTH STAR ADD and SUBD OF LOT. B. are lettered along the top row, with a round SECTION CORNER stamp at the east end of SUBD OF LOT. B. WOODARD'S ADD is lettered down the east edge, and FAIRVIEW is lettered across the blocks at the south end, with OUTLOTS along the foot.

Along the west side of the plan the railroad is drawn as bundles of tracks, with DEPOT. lettered on the line and Lumber Yard and Coal Shed lettered beside the tracks. A looped track to the north-west of the plan encloses open land lettered Rail Road Company. ST. PAUL R. R. is lettered along the straight line that runs up the right of the loop, and CHICAGO, MILWAUKEE & ST. PAUL R. R. is lettered on the line that sweeps in from the upper left. NISHNABOTNY is lettered on a thin line of stream at the lower left, and RIVER on the same line near the top of the loop.

Church is lettered in several blocks of the plan, School is lettered among the blocks right of the middle, and Livery Hotel is lettered on the west side of the plan.

Beyond the plan the open land carries handwritten owner names: Henry Walker 83.98 below the title, O. S. Olson 103.67 to the right of it, W. J. Schwartz 160 along the right edge, Patrick Cary on the land west of the tracks, Edward Sanders below that and G. D. Brokaw below the south end of the plan.

This print appears in faded sage on warm cream paper, with black lettering.
