The Story Behind the Print

Tafel 67 from Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904), titled Chiroptera, Fledertiere (bats).. The plate is a fine grey-blue engraving on a cream ground, with fifteen numbered figures in a ruled panel and the title below.

A bat with fully spread wings crosses the upper center, with two large-eared bats above it, one seen head-on and one with wings open. Below them, a grid of faces and heads shows the variety of ears and facial leaves, from tall pointed ears to ruffled, leaf-shaped noses, with a fringed, round-faced bat at the center and a smiling, wide-faced bat at the bottom.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
