Diatomea Print, Tafel 84Ernst Haeckel · c. 1904

Tafel 84 from Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904), a plate of diatoms, the glassy shells of single-celled algae.. The plate is printed in white line on a pale blue panel, with Haeckel's heading and the plate number above and the title below.

Seventeen numbered figures fill the panel. A star-patterned disc and a double-eyed disc sit at the top corners, with a branching colony between them, and a round, eight-armed form at the center. Chains of rectangular cells run along both edges, boat-shaped shells sit on either side of the center, and a fan-shaped branching colony rises at the bottom beside a triangular shell at the lower left.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
