The Story Behind the Print
Tafel 24 from Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904), published in 1904, titled Desmidiea. The plate is a colour study of desmid algae in fresh green with touches of pink and rust, on cream paper.
Microscopic algae are shown as numbered geometric and cellular forms. Three-armed and four-armed cells with delicate spines appear around the edges, with banded, spiral and sickle-shaped cells at the top. At the centre a round cell with a rust-coloured nucleus is surrounded by four spiky, white forms, and two large, flower-shaped cells with deep lobes anchor the top and bottom. Lettered details include 3a, 3b, 4a and 4b.
Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.

About the Frame
Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
