The Story Behind the Print

Tafel 92 from Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904), published in 1904, titled Filicinae and captioned Laubfarne. Unlike the diagrammatic plates, this is a full landscape in soft green, buff and pink, with a pale blue sky behind the forest.

Tree ferns and other ferns grow in a tropical forest scene. A tall tree fern with a crown of long, pinnate fronds tinted pink and buff rises at the centre, with a thick trunk wrapped in vines. A second, broad-leaved fern sits at the right, a stand of fronds at the left edge and low, arching ferns carpet the ground, while the forest recedes into mist behind them.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.

About the Frame

Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.

The selected size refers to the artwork itself. Framed orders are custom made and ship within 7 to 10 business days, free in the U.S. See our shipping and return policies for framed piece details.
