This twentieth-century nautical chart of Newport Harbor and the entrance to Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island, is numbered 236 and drawn at a scale of 1:20,000 with soundings in feet at mean low water. Land and water meet in bold shapes across the sheet. Warm olive land and pale water give it the calm, practical look of a working mariner's chart.

Lettered on the sheet are Newport, Jamestown, Conanicut Island, Aquidneck Island, Prudence Island, Goat Island, Coasters Harbor Island, Rose Island, Dutch Island, Fort Adams and Brenton Cove. West Passage and East Passage run down either side of Conanicut Island, and the Torpedo Range is lettered in the channel. Three compass roses stand over the water, with tides, radiobeacon signals and a caution note at the lower margin.
