The Story Behind the Print
This 1870 North Brookfield, Massachusetts map print shows the town's outline in a pale hand-brushed sage wash on soft ivory paper. Engraved roads, brooks and hills spread out from the village at its center.
The map names the North Brookfield post office, Horse Pond, Brook's Pond, Furnace Pond, the Five Mile River, Buck Hill, Batchellers Hill and Walnut Grove Cemetery. New Braintree, Oakham, Spencer, Brookfield and West Brookfield are lettered along the borders.
