The Story Behind the Print
This 1969 nautical chart of Sandy Hook Bay, in the lower bay of New York Harbor, is U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey chart 544, drawn at 1:10,000 with soundings in feet. Open water fills most of the sheet, pale grey and clouded with grey-blue shoals, while the hook and the New Jersey shore are taupe, deepening to mauve-brown in the towns.
Lettered on the sheet are Sandy Hook, Atlantic Highlands, Leonardo and Port Monmouth, with Sandy Hook Bay, Sandy Hook Channel, Chapel Hill South Channel, Terminal Channel and Raritan Bay East Reach. Flynns Knoll, Romer Shoal and Old Orchard Shoal break the bay. The legend marks an anchorage for explosives, and a note warns of a local magnetic disturbance of up to 5 degrees.
Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, ensuring your vintage nautical chart will maintain its maritime heritage for generations.
Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
