The Story Behind the Print

Tafel 12 from Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904). The listing title is Thalamophora; the caption printed on the plate reads Kammerlinge. Foraminifera shells are drawn in grey tone on a warm peach and ochre ground.

Chambered shells are packed edge to edge around a central coiled form, with fine threads radiating from it across the middle of the plate. Round, ribbed and netted shells appear at the top, with smaller spirals beside them, and columns of stacked, ringed chambers rise at the lower left and right. A rosette-shaped shell and a pitted disc complete the arrangement, and the figures are numbered.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
