Theodore M. McCarty’s U.S. Patent D181867, granted January 7, 1958, records the ornamental form of a solid-body electric guitar with a distinctive double-cutaway silhouette, symmetrical horns, and compact headstock.
The principal front view is supported by side, rear, and sectional views, creating a clean industrial-design study with strong vertical rhythm. This restored edition preserves the original patent arrangement in crisp black linework on cool, timeworn rag paper within the collection’s restrained black double rule.
