The Story Behind the Print

U.S. Design Patent 169,062, granted March 24, 1953 to Clarence L. Fender, records the ornamental form of an electric guitar through front, side, rear, and detail views. The sheet is headed C. L. Fender, Guitar, and notes an application filed November 21, 1952.

Fig. 1 is the front of the instrument, with a long fretted neck, four tuning pegs on a paddle-shaped headstock, and a pickguard, pickup and bridge on a contoured body. Fig. 2 is the side profile and Fig. 3 the back, with three small round marks near the base. Fig. 4 is a detail of a small rectangular hardware piece.

About the Frame

Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
