A Town Laid Out for Progress: Elkhorn in 1907

Elkhorn Wisconsin 1907 Map Print

Elkhorn Wisconsin 1907 Map Print -- Slimwood Silver, 36 x 24 inches framed, wall view

In the spring of 1907, Elkhorn, Wisconsin was a town convinced of its own bright future. The plat map you're holding captures that moment perfectly, with its neat grid of lettered streets and numbered blocks, its handwritten property names, and its promise of expansion. This wasn't just a administrative document, it was a vision: see the "Proposed R.R." threading through town, see the fair grounds with their grand stand waiting for crowds, see the additions spreading outward like spokes from the courthouse at the center.

Walworth County was growing. Agricultural life was stabilizing into something more organized, more civic. The fair grounds suggest a community confident enough to invest in gathering, in displaying, in celebrating what local farms could produce. The courthouse, public school, and two cemeteries anchored the spiritual and practical anchors of small-town life. Someone, a surveyor or town clerk, carefully lettered each street name and plotted each parcel, knowing that clarity mattered. Ownership, after all, depends on being able to see exactly where your piece of the world begins and ends.

This map arrived in our collection with its original warm cream paper and faded sage tones intact, carrying the weight of over a century of handling. We've restored it for legibility without stripping away the aged patina that makes vintage cartography so beautiful to live with. You can still feel the era in every line and notation.

Paper & Craft

Each map reproduction is printed using museum-quality giclée technique on heavyweight 325gsm archival matte paper with archival inks. The giclée process captures extraordinary detail from the vintage original, while the archival-grade materials ensure your print will remain vivid and stable for generations. The matte finish creates an intimate, editorial quality, letting the cartographic details and period character speak for themselves without glare. Colors may shift slightly between screen and print, but in person, the depth and richness will always exceed expectations.
