A Mill Town's Portrait, Drawn in Sage and Detail

Windsor Locks Connecticut 1869 Map Print

Windsor Locks Connecticut 1869 Map Print -- Slimwood Silver, 20 x 24 inches framed, wall view

The map reads like a ledger. Oak, Spring, Church, Elm, School, South, Main, and Centre streets. The New Haven Hartford and Springfield R.R. cuts through, alongside the Canal. Kettle Brook and Adds Brook mark the water's path. The Ice House sits where it does. Grove Cemetery occupies its place. And the mills: paper mills, stockinet mills, a cotton mill, all named and positioned on the sheet.

There's a Business Reference list to consult, and a Gas Works marked, and the Station.

What strikes the modern eye is the restraint of the color palette: that sage wash over cream, the spare black text.
