The Story Behind the Print
Tafel 63 from Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904), published in 1904, titled Basimycetes and captioned Schwammpilze. The plate is printed in black and white, with stinkhorn mushrooms in pale tones on a solid black ground.
Fungi appear in numbered studies, mostly with roots hanging below. A tall, bell-shaped specimen with a lace-like veil sits at the centre. Egg-shaped caps with honeycomb pitting stand at the upper left and right, and a tall, pitted stalk with a netted cap rises at the lower left. A shaggy, scaled cap on a ringed stalk stands at the right, a tentacled, star-shaped form hangs at the top, and a cross-section is shown at the lower centre.
Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.
Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
