The Story Behind the Print

Tafel 45 from Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904), titled Campanariae and captioned Glockenpolypen. Pale teal and ochre tints are laid over delicate linework on cream paper.

Bell-shaped hydroid polyps are drawn as branching colonies, each numbered. Stalked, trumpet-mouthed polyps rise from jointed stems, with pouch-like egg capsules and fine, trailing threads between them. At the top centre a small round medusa shows radiating tentacles, and the lower edge carries creeping stems with upright polyps. Ringed and zigzag stalks give the plate its patterned, lace-like quality.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.

About the Frame

Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
