The Story Behind the Print
Corona at Dodabetta records the solar eclipse observed on December 11 and 12, 1871. The black disc and finely graduated corona are framed by measured bearings and a printed Royal Astronomical Society plate reference.
The complete sheet keeps the numbered scale, compass directions, plate title and textured paper surrounding the dark photographic field. The corona's radiating wisps remain visible around the eclipsed sun without cropping the scientific annotations. Its printed details remain clear across the complete historical composition and surrounding annotations.
Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.
Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
