The Story Behind the Print
Thomas A. Edison’s electric-lamp patent, granted January 27, 1880, records one of the defining designs of the electrical age. U.S. Patent 223,898 describes an incandescent lamp with a high-resistance carbon conductor enclosed in a glass receiver from which the air was exhausted.
The sheet’s measured typography, sectional bulb drawing, callouts, and signatures give the invention the quiet authority of a nineteenth-century working document. This edition preserves that patent character while carefully restoring the engraved linework and setting the drawing on a cool, timeworn rag-paper ground with a restrained black rule.
Printed to order on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper with fade-resistant archival pigment inks. The result is a crisp, historically grounded patent print made for offices, libraries, workshops, and collected gallery walls.

About the Frame
Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
