The Story Behind the Print

This 1958 nautical chart of Galveston Bay and Approaches, Texas, is U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey chart 1282, drawn on a Mercator projection at 1:80,000 with soundings in feet at mean low water. Pale blue shallows fill the bays between stone-taupe shores and olive-grey marsh, while the deeper Gulf of Mexico runs white off the long Galveston barrier island.

Lettered on the sheet are Galveston, Texas City, Baytown, La Porte, Seabrook, Kemah, League City, Hitchcock, La Marque and Port Bolivar, with Trinity Bay, East Bay, West Bay, Christmas Bay, Clear Lake, San Jacinto Bay, Bolivar Roads and the Houston Ship Channel. Pelican Island, Follets I., Bolivar Peninsula, Hanna Reef and San Luis Pass mark the shoreline. A Galveston Bay Channel Depths table, a tidal table for Port Bolivar, Galveston and Morgan Point, and an Intracoastal Waterway note appear in the margins.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, ensuring your vintage nautical chart will maintain its maritime heritage for generations.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
