The Story Behind the Print
Garrett A. Morgan’s U.S. Patent 1,475,024, granted November 20, 1923, describes a manually operated traffic signal intended to coordinate vehicles moving through an intersection. Its intermediate caution position created a deliberate pause between opposing directions of travel.
The upright signal, cross arms, sectional details, and repeated STOP panels make the sheet unusually direct and graphic. Restored black linework sits on cool old rag paper, preserving the document’s civic and mechanical character within a simple black border.
Printed to order on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper with fade-resistant archival pigment inks. A strong piece for offices, transit collections, classrooms, and urban interiors.

About the Frame
Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
