The Story Behind the Print

Tafel 82 from Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904), titled Hepaticae, Lebermoose (liverworts).. The plate is printed in full color on a cream ground, with seventeen numbered figures in a ruled panel and the heading Tafel 82 — Marchantia.

Liverworts are drawn as leafy shoots, flat lobed bodies and stalked reproductive structures. A rosette of star-shaped heads sits at the center, with umbrella-like receptacles on slender stalks above it and open capsules on thin stems at the sides. The colors run from fresh green and olive to rust, pink and orange, and the leafy shoots at the lower edge are ruffled and toothed.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.

About the Frame

Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
