Hexactinellae Print, Tafel 35Ernst Haeckel · c. 1904

Tafel 35 from Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904), titled Hexactinellae and captioned Glasschwämme. The plate is drawn in fine grey-green linework on cream paper.

The upper half of the plate is given to numbered microscopic details: square lattices of spicules, a large round cross-section with scalloped chambers, and small star-shaped and tufted skeletal elements. The lower half shows glass sponges as whole forms, among them a lobed, perforated sponge at the centre, a spiralling stalk at the left, a branching stem with ringed segments and a tall, tubular form on a long stalk at the right.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
