The Story Behind the Print

Tafel 93 from Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904), published in 1904, titled Mycetozoa and captioned Pilztiere. The plate is printed in black and white, with slime moulds drawn in fine pale tones on a solid black ground.

Slime moulds are shown as stalked sporangia, networks and microscopic forms. Round netted spheres, mushroom-like caps and umbrella-shaped heads on tall, thin stalks fill the central field, with a tall lattice-walled one at the centre. Coiled worm-like forms appear at the upper left and right, small crawling cells are drawn at the top, and clustered, bulbous sporangia crowd the lower edge.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.

About the Frame

Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.

The selected size refers to the artwork itself. Framed orders are custom made and ship within 7 to 10 business days, free in the U.S. See our shipping and return policies for framed piece details.
