The Story Behind the Print
This Audubon bird print reproduces plate 401 from John James Audubon's nineteenth-century Birds of America. The original engraving identifies the Red-breasted Merganser and distinguishes the male and female birds.
One merganser flies low above the wetland while the other swims through dark, rippling water. Pitcher plants and fine reeds rise along the shore, setting off the birds' crests, patterned wings and red bills. The original folio, Plate CCCCI mark, species caption and engraved credits remain visible.
Archive Print Co. restores each illustration for clarity while preserving the character of the original. Each reproduction is printed as a giclée art print on heavyweight 325gsm archival matte paper with archival inks.

About the Frame
Framed pieces are built to order in solid wood with clear acrylic glazing, dry-mounted artwork, a kraft paper dust cover, and hanging wire. Each piece arrives ready to hang. No mat. Satin Black has a 7/8-inch face and adds 1.25 inches to the total width and height. Slimwood Silver and Slimwood Gold have a 1 1/8-inch face and add 1.75 inches to the total width and height.
