The Story Behind the Print
Tafel 37 from Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904), titled Siphonophorae and captioned Staatsquallen. The plate is drawn in very pale grey-green linework on cream paper, with only a faint tint.
A tall, conical colony with a pointed tip rises at the centre, its stem wrapped by a twisting spiral of tentacles and threads. Around the middle hang clusters of bells and flared, flower-like polyps. Five numbered figures are set around it: a four-lobed disc at the upper left, a folded form at the upper right, and two round, frilled discs at the lower corners, one with a small flask-shaped body.
Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.
Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
