The Story Behind the Print
Total Solar Eclipse records the corona observed on July 29, 1878. The dark solar disc sits against a warm grey field, surrounded by an irregular luminous form derived from contemporary eclipse photographs and identified on the sheet as Plate V.
The complete printed composition retains the plate number, publisher line, eclipse date and caption. Delicate stippling describes the corona's bright structure, while small marks and tonal variation remain part of the historical plate. Its printed details remain clear across the complete historical composition and surrounding annotations.
Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, preserving the detail and character of the original for generations.
Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.
