The Story Behind the Print

This 1959 nautical chart of Delaware Bay, New Jersey and Delaware, is U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey chart 1218, drawn on a Mercator projection at 1:80,000 with soundings in feet at mean low water. Grey-green marsh rims the contour-lined, stone-taupe uplands, and pale blue shoals braid down the bay toward the white channels off Cape May and Cape Henlopen.

Lettered on the sheet are Cape May, Cape May Point, Lewes, Dover, Millville, Bridgeton, Port Norris, Fortescue, Fairton and Port Mahon, with Maurice River Cove, Cape May Harbor, Cape May Inlet, Breakwater Harbor and Harbor of Refuge. Cape Henlopen, Kelly I. and Nantuxent Pt. mark the shores, with Joe Flogger Shoal and Egg Island Flats out in the bay. A Delaware River Channel Depths table cites a report of November 18, 1958 and a survey of December 4, 1958, and a restricted area is marked off Cape Henlopen.

Printed on 325gsm museum-grade archival matte paper using fade-resistant giclée printing with archival inks, ensuring your vintage nautical chart will maintain its maritime heritage for generations.

Colors may vary slightly between screens and the finished piece — the print will always be richer.

About the Frame
