The Story Behind the Print
This Audubon bird print reproduces plate 425, Columbian Humming Bird, from John James Audubon's nineteenth-century Birds of America. The original composition brings five numbered birds together around a flowering plant.
Four hummingbirds hover or perch among pink blossoms and green leaves, while a fifth rests by a small nest below. Red throats, dark wings and fine feather markings give the scene its lively detail. The folio number, plate mark, engraved title, figure numbers and credits remain part of the print.

About the Frame
