Walter Hunt’s U.S. Patent 6281, granted April 10, 1849, documents a single length of wire formed into a spring coil, pointed shaft, and protective clasp—the enduring arrangement of the safety pin.
A handful of enlarged views transforms the familiar pin into an elegant, almost calligraphic nineteenth-century study. This restored edition preserves the original patent arrangement in crisp black linework on cool, timeworn rag paper within the collection’s restrained black double rule.
